Epilepsy
Age: 5 years old

Sashenka fell ill when he was only six months old. At such an early age, the baby experienced something that not every adult can do.

In the few years of his life, he has faced three strokes, severe COVID-19, epileptogenic encephalopathy and hundreds of seizures daily. His body is exhausted. But Sasha has come a long way and continues to fight valiantly for his health. Last year, the boy already underwent surgery. Now he is in vital need of a second surgery at the Teknon Clinic (Barcelona).

How it all started

Up to six months old, Sasha grew up a perfectly healthy child and pleased his mom and dad. But one day the baby's left side completely collapsed. While the family was waiting for the results of the COVID-19 test, the boy started having seizures.

The diagnosis was scary: coronavirus, meningitis, encephalitis and stroke on the background of viral infection.

«Sasha is so weak he looks like a doll.»

The most severe consequence of the disease was drug-resistant epilepsy. Sasha underwent all possible treatment regimens and tried many medicines, but nothing helped. The number of epileptic seizures was up to 200 per day.

In 2024, the parents raised funds for their son's first surgery with their own efforts. Doctors removed part of the epilepsy foci in his brain. Since then, the seizures have become weaker and have decreased to 50 per day, and the child's condition has stabilized.

But Sasha still cannot sit, stand, crawl, or hold his head up. His parents feed him mashed potatoes and give him water from a pacifier. The baby constantly battles with high blood pressure, he has renal artery stenosis, spastic tetraparesis and arterial hypertension.

The only chance is surgery at Teknon.

During the first intervention, it was impossible to remove all foci of epilepsy. That is why a second operation is extremely important. It must be performed soon. With each seizure, Sasha's brain is being destroyed, losing chances to recover. There is hope that after treatment the healthy part of the brain will take over the work of the destroyed one and the baby will start to recover.

The second operation is already scheduled for mid-January. The family is raising funds from several foundations. The Together Forever Foundation has responded to help raise the missing 10,000 euros.

We want our son to be able to play with other children in the sandbox and ride on the swings, to never have any pain. To hear the cherished «mommy» and «daddy». This dream keeps us going and does not let us give up,

- Sasha's dad is hopeful.
