Almas
Abdilda
Almas was born with a very severe spinal malformation - spina bifida. All his life he has been fighting hard against this diagnosis. The boy underwent two surgeries in Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, they did not help him to keep the ability to walk on his own. But he still has a chance to get back on his feet.
Elmira, Almaz's mom, writes:
«When our son was born, I immediately knew from the doctors' reactions that something was wrong. It turned out that my child was diagnosed with spina bifida. It was very hard to realize that without surgery your child could become disabled. When Almas was 3.5 months old, we decided to do it. In Kazakhstan, children with such pathology are rarely operated on successfully, and we were no exception.
When my son learned to stand and walk, we noticed that he was limping on one leg. It turned out that it was 1 centimeter shorter. Over time, we discovered a re-fixation of the spinal cord - Almas was 9 years old at the time. He complained of severe back pain. Another operation had to be performed. We really hoped that this time it would at least relieve our son's pain, but the results of the operation were much worse than we expected.
Almas' leg muscles have become very weak, his son can no longer walk on his own, he moves around the house only on his knees. After consulting with neurosurgeon Shimon Rohkind, we have hope. He is ready to help us put our son back on his feet. But the operation with the professor must be done as soon as possible: the MRI images are very bad. Please help us to get to the life-saving treatment! This is our last hope to change our son's life for the better and give him back the ability to walk on his own».
Friends, our foundation responded to help Almas and raise a portion of the total cost of treatment. Thanks to your help and support, Dr. Shimon Rohkind performed surgery on Almas on August 31, 2022. It lasted 7 hours and was successful. Thank you to everyone who helped us make a difference in the boy's life!
