Atresia / Microtia
Age: 10 years old

A cheerful and active girl, but she can only hear with her left ear. Instead of her right ear, she has a prosthesis. Two surgeries in Moscow, which were supposed to restore hearing in her right ear, were unsuccessful and led to life-threatening consequences. Nastya has a high risk of cholesteatoma, an aggressive tumor that could take away the most important thing - her life.

The girl was born together with her brother Nikita. There were no limits to the parents' happiness, but with the birth of their children they had to learn about a previously unknown pathology - microtia/atresia of the right ear canal, which was detected in Nastya. The doctors reassured the mother and suggested that until the age of 8 she should do nothing: grow her hair, wear caps and accept the circumstances.

Perhaps this would have been the case, but since the girl could only hear in one ear, she began to lag behind in development and poorly oriented in space. The mother sounded the alarm and started looking for specialists who could help her daughter.

The search was difficult. In America, such operations have been performed for more than 30 years, but the cost of treatment there is very high. There are also specialists in Russia, and the price is more affordable. Therefore, in March 2020, Nastya was operated on in Moscow, at the FMBA. Immediately after the operation, the girl started hearing, and the positive dynamics gave hope that everything was behind her.

Unfortunately, six months later, serious complications arose: my hearing was lost, my ear canal overgrew and fluid began to leak out. The operation had to be repeated, but this only made the situation worse. The girl's life was at risk, and she urgently needed the help of Dr. Roberson, who was ready to restore Nastya's hearing.

Thanks to your support, we were able to close the fundraiser on time and give Nastya a chance for a healthy future.

During the surgery, Dr. Roberson discovered a cholesteatoma in the right ear, which had managed to partially infect the prosthesis (medporus) and the cranial bone. Following the surgery, the doctor decided to close the ear canal of the right ear, effectively saving Nastia's life.

Thank you each and every one of you for helping the little girl in a timely manner!
