Kanykei
Emil Kizi
Kanykei Emil Kyzy from Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) is our ward who always smiles, laughs and spreads love everywhere she goes. On the day when this little girl was born, it seemed that there was no one happier than her parents - after all, they had been dreaming about her for 5 years.
But she was born with a congenital spinal malformation. Her diagnosis of spina bifida became known two months before she was born. Her parents hoped it was a mistake, but as soon as the diagnosis was confirmed, they immediately started fighting for their daughter's health.
Mom's writing:
«On March 25, 2021, our daughter was born. She looked healthy with no apparent abnormalities except for a small lump on her lower back. A few days after the MRI, the diagnosis of spina bifida was confirmed. My husband and I were morally prepared for this, so we immediately contacted the clinics and, having compared all the options, chose a feasible for us in terms of price. At two months we took our daughter for the first operation in Istanbul.
The surgery was a success. We thought so until we did a follow-up MRI scan of the lumbar spine when Kanykei was one year old. The study showed that her spinal cord was fixed. The doctor could not answer the question of why the fixation had occurred, nor could he guarantee that there would be no complications and another fixation after the second surgery. Such a guarantee could not be given by any of the doctors to whom we sought help, except one - Dr. Shimon Rohkind. The probability of another fixation after his surgery is only 2 %.
My soul is torn apart by the fact that we are not able to help our little angel on our own. But there are so many kind people in the world that thanks to them we have already managed to raise almost half of the necessary amount. And we sincerely believe that if more caring hearts help us, we will be able to give Kanykei a healthy future in which she will walk, run and even dance. I ask you very much, please help us to save her health».
Friends, thanks to your support Kanykei was able to get to the best specialist in spina bifida - Prof. Shimon Rohkind - for treatment. On January 20, 2023, he performed the girl's surgery flawlessly and was very happy with the result. He succeeded in completely freeing Kanykei's spinal cord from adhesions and lipoma. The professor says that the neuromonitoring results after the surgery are very good, which means that there is great hope that Kanykei's spinal cord fixation will not happen again. May it be just that!
