Leon
Razumnov
Leon is the long-awaited and only child in the family. He was born at a difficult time when the world was gripped by a pandemic. The labor was difficult. The doctors, overburdened by the coronavirus, could not pay enough attention to the baby. Leon was discharged home on the 3rd day.
When the boy was 4 months old, his parents noticed that his legs were very stiff and could hardly bend. The doctors at the district polyclinic assured them that everything was fine. But the anxiety did not let go, and at 11 months parents independently applied to the National Medical Center for Children's Health. There the diagnosis was made for the first time: perinatal lesion of the CNS, suspected cerebral palsy. From that moment the struggle for Leon's future began.
Years of persistent rehabilitation bore fruit: the boy learned to eat independently, wash his hands, climb onto the bed and, most importantly, to walk. Every step he took was a huge victory. But when Leon turned 4 years old and the stage of active growth began, his condition began to deteriorate. He started to walk on his toes, fell down often, and his right leg became deformed and painful.
When the family contacted the foundation, Leon was almost 5 years old. The spasticity in his muscles had progressed. The rehabilitation methods that had been used previously had stopped working. The boy was in so much pain in his leg that he could only move around in a wheelchair.
SPML surgery at IASO Children's Hospital (Greece) was a chance to save Leon from pain and preserve his ability to move independently. The cost of the operation was 26,850 €. We helped the parents raise the missing 7,478 €. On May 20, 2025, the boy's treatment took place. Dr. Kanelopoulos performed the SPML surgery on Leon and was very pleased with the result.
«Leon feels good after the operation, nothing bothers him. He is a bit cranky because he is immobile and asks to take off the cast - he is getting used to it,
- shares the boy's mom, Svetlana.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported this important fundraiser and gave the boy a chance for a life without pain in his leg and a chance to walk independently. Our special thanks go to the participants of the Together Forever team at the Limassol Opap Marathon, thanks to whom we were able to close this fundraiser completely.
