Moyamoya
Age: 12 years old

Salomia lives with a rare disease that doctors in Moldova have been unable to diagnose for six years. Her diagnosis is moyamoya, a dangerous disease that affects the blood vessels of the brain. In this disease, the walls of the carotid arteries thicken and narrow, reducing blood flow to the brain. This can lead to strokes, and Salomia has already had one.

Thanks to your support, we were able to raise the necessary amount for the first operation at Children's Hospital Moyamoya Center in Zurich.

On February 21, 2025, Professor Nadia Kahn performed a life-saving operation during which the affected middle cerebral arteries on both sides were operated on. Of the six vessels, five were in critical condition - a stroke could have occurred at any minute. The operation lasted 11 hours and was successful.

However, one operation is not enough to fully protect Salomiya's brain - her body could not bear such a heavy load at one time.

A second surgery was necessary for a full recovery. Thanks to your kind hearts and the generosity of our responsive donor, we were able to close the collection on time. On September 12, 2025, Professor Nadia Kahn performed a very complicated operation on Salomiya's brain vessels. The operation lasted 10 hours and was successful.

Salomiya underwent surgery on 3 cerebral vessels, two in front and one in back on the left side. Prof. Kang did a brilliant job. Thanks to the treatment, Salomiya's risk of having a stroke due to moyamoya is now minimized.

This was made possible thanks to your kind hearts! Thank you for helping children get a chance for a healthy future!
