Olga was born a completely healthy and active child. However, at 2.5 years old, her happy and carefree childhood came to an end. She started having twitching in her right leg, which eventually spread to her right arm. In 2014, at the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, Olya was diagnosed with Rasmussen's encephalitis—a rare autoimmune disease of the brain accompanied by drug-resistant epilepsy. She needed surgery.
⠀
In 2018, Olga underwent life-saving treatment in Germany at the Schoen Clinic (Vogtareuth). She had a left-sided hemispherotomy. The treatment was successful, but not without complications. Olya developed persistent right-sided hemiparesis. She couldn't walk, sit, or speak well. Thanks to regular rehabilitations several times a year, she gradually began to recover.
⠀
Now, Olya is in remission, developing well, and is no longer troubled by epileptic seizures. To maintain positive progress, she needs regular rehabilitation courses.
Thanks to your support, from November 25, 2024, to December 13, 2024, Olya completed an important three-week rehabilitation program at Sher Európai Rehabilitációs Központ (Budapest, Hungary). The therapy delivered incredible results: Olya learned to walk on a treadmill for up to 15 minutes, maintain challenging positions, and stand on one leg. She also began actively using her right hand to perform exercises with less effort. This rehabilitation brought significant progress and strengthened her belief in recovery.
Friends, thank you so much to each of you for helping Olya!
