Salomiya lives with a rare condition that doctors in Moldova were unable to diagnose for six years. Her diagnosis — Moyamoya — is a dangerous disease affecting the blood vessels in the brain. With this condition, the walls of the carotid arteries thicken and narrow, reducing blood flow to the brain. This can lead to strokes — and Salomia has already suffered one.

Thanks to your support, we were able to raise the necessary amount for her first surgery at the Children’s Hospital Moyamoya Center in Zurich. On February 21, Professor Nadia Khan performed a life-saving procedure on Salomia, operating on the affected middle cerebral arteries on both sides. Out of six blood vessels, five were in critical condition — a stroke could have happened at any moment. The operation lasted 12 hours and was successful.

However, it is impossible to fully protect Salomiya’s brain with just one operation — her body could not endure such a heavy load all at once. A second surgery is essential for a full recovery. It will help restore blood flow to other parts of the brain responsible for development and cognition, and prevent a stroke in those areas.

For full recovery, a second surgery was necessary. Thanks to your kind hearts and the generosity of our compassionate donor, we managed to complete the fundraising in time. On September 12, 2025, Professor Nadya Kan performed a highly complex brain vessel surgery for Salomiya. The operation lasted 10 hours and was successful.

Three brain vessels were operated on: two in the front and one in the back on the left side. Professor Kan carried out the procedure brilliantly. Now, thanks to this treatment, the risk of stroke caused by Salomiya’s moyamoya diagnosis has been minimized.

This became possible thanks to your kind hearts! Thank you for helping children get a chance at a healthy future!
