Salomiya lives with a rare condition that doctors in Moldova were unable to diagnose for six years. Her diagnosis — Moyamoya — is a dangerous disease affecting the blood vessels in the brain. With this condition, the walls of the carotid arteries thicken and narrow, reducing blood flow to the brain. This can lead to strokes — and Salomia has already suffered one.

Thanks to your support, we were able to raise the necessary amount for her first surgery at the Children’s Hospital Moyamoya Center in Zurich. On February 21, Professor Nadia Khan performed a life-saving procedure on Salomia, operating on the affected middle cerebral arteries on both sides. Out of six blood vessels, five were in critical condition — a stroke could have happened at any moment. The operation lasted 12 hours and was successful.

However, it is impossible to fully protect Salomiya’s brain with just one operation — her body could not endure such a heavy load all at once. A second surgery is essential for a full recovery. It will help restore blood flow to other parts of the brain responsible for development and cognition, and prevent a stroke in those areas.

Salomiya is now in recovery — her surgical wounds are healing. She has returned to school, spends time with her siblings, and is enjoying a normal childhood again. But time is not on her side. The second surgery must be performed as soon as possible.

The cost of the next stage of treatment is €70,000. Her large family from Moldova, with nine children, simply cannot raise this amount on their own. They desperately need our help and support.
