Vlad’s story began in 2019 when he started first grade. Just three weeks later, everything changed. Vlad developed severe abdominal pain and a high fever. His mother rushed him to the clinic, where he was quickly discharged with a standard treatment plan. But the medication didn’t help, and Vlad’s condition continued to worsen.
⠀
His mother took him to an infectious disease unit, and from there he was transferred to neurology due to persistent headaches. Just three days later, Vlad fell into a coma.
⠀
His mother was terrified. Even after a telemedicine consultation with one of the country’s leading children’s hospitals, doctors were left without answers. A month and a half later, still with a high fever and connected to a ventilator and feeding tube, Vlad endured an 11-hour journey in a critical care ambulance to Moscow. After a series of tests and evaluations, doctors still couldn’t determine the exact cause of his condition.
⠀
But the consequences were tragically clear: due to hypoxia, Vlad lost the ability to move and speak as he once did, and his limbs began to deform.
⠀
Over the past five years, Vlad has been through more than most adults experience in a lifetime. Yet he hasn’t given up. He continues to fight for a future that, perhaps one day, might include simple joys again—playing with friends and living without worry.
⠀
Vlad’s mother, Natalia, has dedicated her life to caring for him. His father started his own small business to support the family. Their income is modest, and every cent goes toward Vlad’s treatment and rehabilitation.
⠀
Vlad is currently receiving immunoglobulin therapy and slowly making progress. But his next critical step is an SPML surgery with Dr. Bernius — a procedure that could give him the chance to get out of his wheelchair and walk on his own.
