Epilepsy
Age: 6 years old

Nikita Ureki is a boy from Transnistria who walks, talks, and understands everything. He is a kind and curious child, but epileptic seizures interfere with his life. Nikita needs surgery.

Mom's pregnancy was uneventful, but at 33 weeks, an ultrasound revealed that the baby would be born with disabilities. From the very first days, Nikita was given medication, worked with neurologists, and underwent rehabilitation. By the age of one, it seemed like everything was behind them. Then, at 1 year and 3 months, he had his first epileptic seizure.

Doctors diagnosed him with genetic epilepsy caused by a mutation in the SCN8A gene. Seizures were quite frequent, sometimes so severe that Nikita had to be admitted to intensive care. Now they have significantly decreased, occurring once a month, but no medications can help control them. They can happen anywhere, so his mother is always by his side and cannot go to work – she accompanies her son to kindergarten, classes, and on walks.

The epileptic focus in Nikita's brain is located where the speech center is. Each seizure affects the words Nikita has already learned to say. Doctors warn that the disease will continue to affect the boy's development. He needs surgery.

The parents found Professor Antonio Russi, head of the Teknon Epilepsy Institute in Barcelona. He specializes in complex cases and has already helped a large number of children.

Antonio Russi's operation will give Nikita a chance to live without seizures or significantly reduce their frequency. The cost of the treatment is €68,739. Our Foundation has responded to collect 35 000 €. As soon as the full amount is collected, Nikita will be scheduled for surgery.

Please help Nikita. Every donation from you is his chance to develop fully without the fear of a new seizure.

Donations totaling 13,052 euros. These funds were raised for the treatment of Ariana Khajoyan, our ward, whose fundraiser we were forced to close due to her parents' decision to have their daughter treated at another clinic.
