8-year-old Alena survived 16 brain surgeries and spent half of her days in neurosurgical reanimation. The girl’s life depends entirely on a shunt, an artificial pump piping system diverting cerebrospinal fluid from the head.
Alena was born with shunt-dependent hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy resulting from a severe birth injury. Despite her health problems, Alena can read and write, and she recently started her first year in a specialized school.Details
