On July 10, 2018, an adorable baby, Eldar, was born in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), by cesarean section. The boy was diagnosed with spina bifida, a congenital defect in the development of the spinal cord and spine. There are different types of spina bifida, Eldar has lipomeningocele - an abnormality where fatty tissue attaches to and puts pressure on the spinal cord. At the age of 2 months, Eldar underwent a complex surgery at the pediatric clinic of the Municipal Hospital of Bishkek. It restored the sensitivity of the boy's legs, but could not save him from spinal cord fixation and deterioration of his condition.
Eldar's right leg suffered from deformity. It was 1 centimeter longer than the left one and 1 size bigger. With such pathology, children usually do not walk, but Eldar even managed to run and play soccer. He confidently scored goals and sincerely dreamed that his leg will become better after the surgery and then he will be able to exchange his special sneakers for normal white ones, like his younger brother has.
Eldar's health continued to deteriorate. The spinal cord was fixed, a deformation of the left leg could occur at any time, and then the boy could lose the ability to walk. To prevent this, Eldar needed two serious surgeries: one neurosurgical and one orthopedic.
Our foundation raised 10,000 euros for the boy. Together with other charitable foundations and kind hearts, we did everything possible to ensure that Eldar received timely, life-saving treatment, the total amount of which was $78,638.
On July 7, 2023 Dr. Shimon Rochkind of the Assuta Clinic performed a flawless neurosurgical operation and freed the boy’s spinal cord from roots and pathological tissue. On July 18, 2023 Eldar underwent orthopedic surgery. It was also successful. Now the boy is no longer at risk of disability, he will be able to walk, and we very much hope that one day he will even be able to walk.
